She Feeds Them All

Updated: Mar 7

As soon as the day is new,

The rooster is her alarm clock

In and out of season

Her heart is in the soil

Her hands calloused on shovels

When the president is done endorsing bills

The pilot done flying over the hills

And the sailor navigating the sea waves

She feeds them

When the doctor is out of the theatre

When the teacher's chalk is down

And the journalist's pen is tired

She feeds them

When the poet is done reciting

When the entertainer is downstage

And the driver is packed,

She feeds them all

When she can no longer predict the nimbus

Her input floods the drain

Slowly until drought generously hits

And she can't cope

But pick up a rope

And end all hope.
